Hey, look, when did it get to be Saturday again? I swear I have been hard at work this past week, but I just haven't managed to get to the items at the end of the to-do list, including blogging. So. Next week will be better.

Meanwhile, in the YPP universe, there are blockades. Not many, mind you. But a couple. As usual, stay tuned for whether additional war chests drop at the last minute.

Also there is a new Seal o' Piracy to fight for. Or play for, if you prefer. The Seal for August 2017 calls for playing 10 parlor games. Personally, I dislike this particular goal, because parlor games are my least favorite part of the game. There are infinite variations on Poker, Hearts and Spades across many, many different apps in all the computerized world--why, precisely, do I need to do that in Puzzle Pirates? I'd much rather be doing the things that are actually unique to the game. That said, the Treasure Drop and Drinking games might be considered unique to YPP (despite that Drinking is basically just a thematic skin on the PopCap game Alchemy), but I don't really like them much.

Basically, I'm waiting for Thursdays and Saturdays to play in swordfighting and rumble tournaments. I'm not sure if that counts toward the August Seal o' Piracy. We'll find out.

What is wrong with everyone? There are two--count 'em, two-- blockades currently scheduled across the entire YPP universe. That's it. One on Cerulean and one on Meridian, both scheduled for noon Pirate Time today. WHERE IS EVERYONE OMG (and why nothing on Emerald? That's my doubloon farm, people!)

More war chests may get dropped as we approach the end of the blockade declaration window, but I won't be able to check on that until later on in the afternoon 'cause I'm going to see the 12:30 MDT showing of Atomic Blonde. Will try to remember to check afterward and update this post with any additions to the schedule.

Update! In fact, yes, a handful of Sunday blockades did drop (including one on Emerald yay), and the Hephaestus' Forge BK attack on Cerulean got rescheduled for Sunday. So there you go. But I did not actually go to the movie after all. Next weekend maybe.

MEANWHILE... I got a prompt to update my Java installation this week. After that, my shortcuts for Dark Seas/Obsidian no longer worked. I was able to fix them following these instructions. The post is about ten years old, but the advice is still good--at least, I can vouch for that in windows. Briefly, you have to edit the shortcut's target folder's name to reference the version of Java you're currently running. So instead of...

• "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin\javaw.exe" -jar getdown-dop.jar .

...it now says this:

• "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_144\bin\javaw.exe" -jar getdown-dop.jar .

Notable in today's blockade schedule is a triple attack by new(ish) flag Symonds Says on islands owned by Spoon Republic. This would be on the Emerald Ocean.

Also on Emerald, Knockout invites all comers to invade their islands "in a friendly setting":

We want opportunities to try out some blockade staff teams that don't typically get much involvement in the 10k/seg high scale blockades.

Hence, we'd like to invite participants to choose an island between Scrimshaw, Alkaid, and even Admiral to showcase their best blockading talents. From here, the two flags will discuss terms and conditions regarding the blockade to ensure as much evenness as possible to truly determine that the best blockade team wins. Some of these terms and conditions may be time of blockade, even jobbing, shared nav lists, etc. To incentive participants, Knockout will be paying 25% of the jobber poe spent by the attackers if the attack was deemed genuine and the flag showed desire to win through at least one fully contested round.

In short, we would like the opportunity to get some more controlled blockades on the scene and we encourage flags who normally would shy away from expensive blockades to take up the challenge.

On Cerulean, the crew "Wolf" is returning to the scene, and their flag Zion announced their intent to take over Endurance Island. Cold Steel will unfortunately not be able to defend, so look for this contest to be called early.

In non-blockade events, Spoon Republic and their friends will be holding an auction on Sunday at 4 PM pirate time. View the forum post linked here for a list of who's up for bid and what they will do for you if you win. (I am particularly charmed by Highpriority's offer to "narrate your life with a fabulous British accent.") Bids start at 50K. Well, 10K really, but there is a 50K prebid on all pirates, so. Other prebids have been announced in replies to the thread. Get yours in now!

And the Oceanmasters have announced two separate contests where by the YPP community can help create a most enticing Steam store page for Dark Seas. Get your crew together, do something fun on the Obsidian Ocean, and capture screenshots and videos of the proceedings as your contest entries! Deadline for both is this Sunday, July 16 at 11:59 PM pirate time.

Obsidian, aka Dark Seas, have no blockades yet but the time will come. (I gotta update my database!)

Ahoy! Blockade reporting is back in service. Sorry about last week - little bit of domain outage, my fault, see Tuesday's post for details if you care. (You are not obligated to care, I don't actually expect you to care, we're back up and running now and that's what matters.)

Anyway, the English-speaking oceans have a handful of engagements each. Here's some highlights:

On Cerulean, we're looking at Blackstar with a capital B versus The Stumbling Solo, more or less, except where it's one of them versus a pesky Brigand King who's charging our good citizens of Conglin Island far too much in taxes.

On Emerald, our friends Spoon Republic are going head-to-head with newcomers Lit (well, they're new to me, anyway). Other newcomers (to me) featured today are Liquored Up and No Strings Attached, tussling over possession of Ix Chel.

And on Meridian, I'm personally invested in Barely Dressed's defense of Akhlys Island against Azarbad the so-called Great. There's other stuff going on too, of course, but if you could be persuaded to make a point of supporting my flag, I sure would appreciate it!

More generally: Anyone got their May Seal o' Piracy yet? I sure haven't. Seems like since the advent of Greedy Brigands/Barbarians, no one wants to bother going after BKs anymore. "Waste of time," I overheard an XO say. Well. I suspect Nensieuisge will be leading a BK hunt on the Emerald Ocean very, very soon. Can't commit to a time yet; got to get through tonight's roller derby double header before I can think about the future. But keep your eyes open, I'll be out there sometime!

This weekend's blockade schedule appears to dominated by, on the Meridian Ocean, Barely Dressed's war with Infamous (seven blockades all kicking off right about noon today) and on the Cerulean Ocean, The Coalition versus The Stumbling Solo (three blockades at various times throughout the PM). Cerulean also hosts a handful of Brigand King encounters, so if you like bounty payments and hauling up treasure, don't miss the action at Chaparral, Labby Moors, and Nu.

It's May and there's a new Seal o' Piracy to be won! This month, your task is simple and clearly explicated:

Engag[e] in melees with 3 Brigand Kings. (Cursed Isles and Brigand King Blockades not included; credit is awarded for reaching the melee, whether you win or lose)

I don't think it has to be three different BKs, but rather three different encounters. But it's much more fun, in my opinion, to win a BK expo during pilly with a decent crew.

Rubber Duckies of Doom are at it again, continuing their efforts to single-flaggedly resurrect the blockade scene on the Emerald Ocean. That's a fine ocean for those purposes. Doubloon prices are still under 4K per on Emerald, unlike on Meridian where (no doubt thanks to some shenanigans) the price got walked up to 8.5K and climbing. Billions of blistering blue barnacles, people, whose interest does that serve? Some of us gotta "coinscribe" to keep our Cerulean subscriptions up to date!
