1. Flag I-N-K are hosting a Kraken Hunt contest next weekend. See how much treasure you can winkle out of the kraken's lair! Prizes to the three best scores. Meanwhile, all participants will be entered into a raffle.
2. A Sloop Flotilla Relay Race was supposed to be held this morning, only Emerlaus went and sunk the flotilla. SO MUCH FOR THAT. Watch the linked thread for new date/time to be announced.

OK, it's Saturday, and we got blockades, but FIRST!!! The Dread Ringers have some important news for us all. On April 6--just this past week--ownership of Puzzle Pirates was transferred:

... to a company called Grey Havens. Grey Havens is a group of former Three Rings employees who have come together to keep the games and communities we love alive and happy.

This has also been the case for another Three Rings/Sega game, Spiral Knights. Hopefully this is the happy outcome that dodges the prognostications of naysayers averring that Sega was going to shut these games down. NOTHING BAD CAN HAPPEN NOW LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU.

*ahem* So. Blockades.

Unaccustomed activity on Opal, where Ursa Major are defending three islands from a simultaneous attack by Der Zorn der Götter. I personally hope UM win because their jobber is a pirate named Momo who leads a crew called Neverending Story. This indicates the presence of Michael Ende fans, which is a faction I can only support.

On Cerulean, Babylon are going to try one more time to oust a Brigand King from the much-abused shores of Tinga Island.

On Meridian, Barely Dressed and Legacy of Life are teaming up to run off a few Brigand Kings of their own.

On Emerald, witness the debut of Salmon Aren't Crafty (Public Statement: "THEY SWIM UPSTREAM!!! WHAT’S CRAFTY ABOUT SWIMMING UPSTREAM!?") as they attack This Means War on Ix Chel. Also there's a thing on Sayers Rock.

And on Jade, Courage are proceeding with anti-Brigand King actions on Isla Spaniel.

Well HI there Saturday! Insofar as you pertain to Puzzle Pirates, you are full of blockades. Some highlights from the YPP Forum include...

• CERULEAN: The Coalition defending Dendrite from The Undertow!
• CERULEAN: Babylon attacking three islands held by brigand kings! (In the case of Iris, it's more like facilitating an attack; Babylon will ally with whoever drops the chest)

Additionally, there's a fair amount of action on the Meridian, Emerald, and Opal oceans as well.

Meanwhile, it's a new month, so we have a new Seal o' Piracy to collect. Earn that trophy by "[e]ngaging in melees with three Brigand Kings!" Whether this means you need three melees total, or three different brigand kings over the course of the month, is not specified. But going by frequent past precedent, we can say with certainty that rumbles on the Cursed Isles and swordfights in Ships' Graveyards do not count toward the seal, despite the presence in these of Vargas and Barnabas respectively. Brigand king encounters via compass, however, are fair game.

Although no one seems to have much to say about them on the forums, there are blockades going on this weekend--everywhere but the Cerulean and Jade Oceans, in fact. Most of the action is against Brigand Kings, especially ones that have already got their claws into the islands what ought to be pirate strongholds.

Saturday is also one of the days when swordfighting and rumbling tournaments are free to play, in case that's relevant to you in your hunt for the Seal o' Piracy: March 2016 edition.

Are you one of those who enjoy trying out new features and braving the strange economy of the Ice Ocean? Be advised that it had a bit of downtime recently due to a physical server move. Should be all better now, but stay alert out there.

I did not come up with that. DON'T BLAME ME. Blame Majorjr on the Cerulean Ocean, announcing that Babylon has scuttled and will be defending against Admiral Finius at Nu Island. (GET IT?!) Also there will be improv comedy:

Once per segment per ship, at any time, a jobber can /shout Infomercial!*. When they do this, the navigator of the ship must do the most comical move they can think of.

BIG IMPORTANT SEMI-ANNUAL REMINDER: DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME In the Pirate Time Zone, we set our clocks ahead by one hour tomorrow morning at 2:00 AM. The times listed here for any blockade scheduled for Sunday may be off by 1 hour. I don't think they are - the majority of them are showing a noon start time, which is about right. But I'll check in tomorrow morning and see if anything needs correcting.

Update: Yes, all the Sunday blockades had been reported as starting an hour earlier than they were actually to start. The times should now be correct as stated.

What else? Hmm. Well, I'm amused that the big multi-island grudge match on Emerald appears to be between flags named Keep the Peace and This Means War. Also, there is no ocean that's absent from the blockade schedule this time around. How often does that happen?

So while I was scouring the forum for blockade intent posts and flag gossip, I found a couple events to tell you about:

• March 17: Lucky Dip Ocean Masters will be prowling the ocean, ready to 1v1 you and wager a PRESENT on the outcome!

Happy Saturday! For your YPP blockading pleasure, we have... well, a few, anyway. Some notes of interest:

On the Meridian Ocean, in addition to competing with Knockout for control of Napi Peak and Nightshade, Imperial Coalition will be hosting a series of Event Blockades on Sunday morning. No idea whether they'll seek jobbers on the Notice Board or whether this is an exclusively inter-ally affair. But if they don't invite you to play, it's a good bet you can get in on the mid-day action between Chapter Three and Knockout over at Windward Vale.

On the Opal Ocean, there is the unusual circumstance of a blockade without a defender. Presumably Tumult-Insel has been left without player governance; Ursa Major seems willing to fill the gap.

I've been lapse in my actually writing updates, and I'm gonna get lapser; this is not an actually writing update. This is your weekend Puzzle Pirates blockades roundup. Why? Because it's Saturday, and time and tide (and the blockade schedule) wait for no pirate.

Absolutely nothing seems to be scheduled for Cerulean. That's unusual. As though to make up for it, the Emerald and Meridian Oceans are hoppin'. They got multi-drops, Brigand King scuffles, and, in the case of Emerald, a whole bunch of max pay offers for the noon blockades.

Chapter Three would like you to know a little bit more about their attack on Raven's Roost (Meridian)...

I'm not sure about the cat (more details might be available in their intent video, linked from the forum post), but pay is very much over the top. Well, the game won't let you go over the top. It's right at the top, 9,999 Pieces of Eight per segment (PoE/seg).

An actually writing update will probably be coming later on today. The preview summary is this: The week 3 Friday Fictionette for February did indeed go out on--I think it was Tuesday of this past week; the week 4 Friday Fictionette is a touch late but will probably be out later today. I hope so, anyway. There's no good reason it shouldn't be. But then again, when have I needed a good reason to slack off? *le sigh* Well, here's to optimism. Please stand by....

A couple of weeks ago we got the news that Darksidemoon (Cerulean Ocean, flag Otherworld) had passed away and left us bereft. This weekend sees her flaggies taking a tour of the Cursed Isles in a war brig in her honor. "Moonie absolutely loved to CI and would find it especially amusing to see us attempt one on a war brig." This will be at 7 PM Pirate Time on Saturday, February 20. You are requested to wear whatever you've got in black. I mean, obviously, it's what you wear to funerals. But in this case it's more because that was all Moonie would wear. She just liked the color black. Everyone used to save their black rags to give to her. So that's what we're doing to honor her memory. Obviously black is one of the more expensive colors, what with the cost of kraken's blood and all that, but wear 'em if you got 'em and Otherworld will appreciate the thought.

Meanwhile, there are about a bazillion blockades happening, especially on the Meridian and Emerald oceans, and almost every single one of them is happening Sunday. Your chronicler is grumbling a bit about that, since her roller derby practice schedule prohibits her participation. But she hopes you have a great time!

Before getting to the blockade round-up, I'm afraid I have to share some sad news. While I was scanning the Puzzle Pirates forums, I came across Otherworld's announcement in Cerulean Parley that our fellow flag member, Darksidemoon, has passed away. She will be greatly missed. I know I'll miss her. Seems like we were just chatting on /fo not long ago.

On the Meridian Ocean, Spirit of Adventure is attacking Acanthaster Spits at 3:00 PM; their initial jobbing offer will be 3,000 Pieces of Eight per Segment (PoE/seg). Chapter Three is making a "semi-friendly" visit to Garden Cradle. (How friendly can it be when you're bringing a housewarming gift of BUNCHES OF CANNONBALLS?) Jobbing to start at 3K PoE/seg, intent being to lower dock prices and keep the island stocked.

Barely Dressed won their blockade on Hadrian Island last weekend; they plan to destroy the Black Market thereon and replace it with a Trading Post. Get your black boxes while you can!

On Emerald, in addition to a whole bunch of blockade action this weekend (much of it late drops for Sunday blockades between Bite the Pillow and This Means War), there's the scuttling of Ix Chel by Bite the Pillow. Their hope was for "a smaller, less experienced flag" to win the island, but the BK decided to make things difficult by turning it up to eleven. They're petitioning the Oceanmasters for a reduction in Finius's fleet strength. We'll see what happens next weekoend.

Right now, right as we speak, Azarbad the Great is attacking Isla Spaniel on the Jade Ocean, and CORSARIOS DE POSEIDÓN are scrambling a defense! When I last checked, pay was 2500 pieces of eight per segment (PoE/seg). If that and a brigand king-free Spaniel is worth it to you, you know what to do!

Meridian and Emerald are the main stages for blockades this weekend--no surprises there. Barely Dressed are attacking Hadrian: "Still a bit unhappy about the paving of the wood spawns especially for a black market," says Camouflages. That won't be until 11:11 AM tomorrow morning, however. Well before that, Coming Soon will be making their move on Labyrinth Moors. They, too, are disgruntled: "We're not very happy with the amount of shoppes placed on Labby over the past few months so it's time to dust a few again," says Ever. Their attack begins at 3:44 PM. Bored before then? Why not help Radioactive defend Akhlys Island from the forces of evil?

On Emerald, things are just as busy. Deep Thought are 'kading against Kakraphoon's current owners! This Means War have posted yet another questionable intent video! Canon balls are flying! It's chaos down here, I tell you--chaos!
